You know that Aesop’s fable about the scorpion and frog crossing the river? Guess which one I am.Īt least at the firm, there’s a diversity of opinion because Liz, Adrian, Julius, and Diane are loudly arguing over Solomon’s proposal. His offer may be sincere, but it could end up being a poisoned chalice for Adrian and company, especially if Solomon has a secret agenda. This is the idealism that Solomon has previously expressed, but he is also a cutthroat, hypercompetitive attorney who isn’t above manipulation and deception to win. Solomon readily admits to it, but he also claims that he longs for a firm that’s truly representative of country’s demographics, so he doesn’t believe it’s hypocritical of him to want to buy his way to diversity. In other words, Adrian knows that Solomon is trying to purchase diversity. Adrian, however, isn’t buying Solomon’s reasoning, because there was a recent write-up in the local newspaper calling out the hypocrisy and lack of diversity of Solomon’s firm and clients. He likes their youth, ambition and hard work and it’s rare that he’s beaten soundly, so he wants them. Solomon is offering them security and legacy as well as a pick of the clients. Everyone is stunned, and Liz observes Solomon’s firm is “the whitest white-shoe law firm in Chicago,” the complete opposite of theirs. He likes their scrappiness and dedication so much that he proposes a firm merger. That definitely gets Lucca’s attention.ĭiane, Adrian, and Liz meet with Solomon, who admired their work on the police department civil lawsuit. He has to cut their conversation short, because he’s being called to hear the local Democratic Party officials’ decision on their candidate pick. When she phones Colin, he admits to sending one bunch but not the rest, so there must be an order mix-up. Lucca doesn’t know who is sending them, but she thinks it might be Colin because Maia’s delivery included a note congratulating her non-shower. The unlucky recipient is Lucca, whose office is inundated with them. Talking about Maia, not only is she a junior associate but she also makes deliveries, specifically balloons. I also wonder how his romantic dinner with Maia went, considering she’s a lesbian. Hmm, I wonder if she hired Gabe (Fisher Stevens), the most incompetent attorney in Chicago. It pertains to foreign corrupt practices.
Adrian is alarmed, especially about the second case that happens to be more complicated. Refereed by Adrian, they’re bickering over the pre-nuptial terms, when Naftali announces she’s hired her own representation for this and a different matter.
Their relationship has progressed (from last season) from a professional one to something more intimate. The lucky woman is Naftali (Katrina Lenk), Sweeney’s dominatrix. Yep, there’s at least one woman in the world who’s willing to marry “alleged” wife-killer and generally batty Colin Sweeney. She stops Maia, who explains that Sweeney is getting a pre-nup drawn. If that isn’t disturbing enough, Liz walks down the hallway and notices Colin Sweeney (Dylan Baker) in a conference room. As a former Justice Department attorney, she is very well aware of who Lemond is. She’s on the phone with husband Ian, busily discussing their son, Malcolm, when she literally stops in her tracks at the sight of Lemond and Solomon chatting. Just then Liz disembarks from the elevator. They’re acquainted, so they proceed to chat. As Solomon waits for his appointment, he runs into drug kingpin Lemond Bishop (Mike Colter, reprising his The Good Wife role). The reception desk is a hive of activity. The mystery visitor is the eminent Solomon Waltzer (Alan Alda) who previously sparred with Adrian and Diane over a police department matter. As the elevator door opens and closes at each stop, the anonymous individual glimpses into the lives of various companies occupying different floors until he reaches his destination, Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart. The episode starts intriguingly from the point of view of a rider on an elevator. The episode starts with a shooting and a mysterious shooter who sets things in motion. Some multi-episode conflicts are addressed, while other plots move forward.
